It’s Gettin’ Hot Out There…So Hot!

Okay, if you’re in Nor Cal right now you are definitely FEELIN’ this heat wave. I am pretty sure it hit 90 today on the Peninsula. And before you Texans say, that’s not real heat, keep in mind, because we don’t experience heat like this more than a few times a year, we do not have air conditioners in our homes. So, when your temps get hot and you scurry from one air-conditioned place to another, we are hot and scurrying from one shaded place with open windows and doors to another. #shushit 🙂

So, in honor of this almost triple digit heat, here’s a few little tidbits about what to, and not to do in these summer heat days.

1. Start and end your day with water!

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it 1,000 times, starting your morning with water is one of the best health moves you can make. If you work out in the morning you (hopefully) are already consuming a ton of water throughout your workout. But for those of you that are not, as you wait for that coffee pot to brew up your morning kickstart, chug a glass of water. Same goes for the nighttime. When you’re finally winding down with the sun, reach for a glass, chugalug, and then start your nightly routine. Not right before bed, as that could cause you to get up throughout the night. You know what to do…

2. Alternate your beverages

With warm temps come outdoor parties, pool hangouts, and consumption of non water beverages. I’m not going to say only drink water, because I’m not gonna only drink water. But this summer try alternating your drinks, bevie, water, bevie, water. This will protect you from dehydrating too much, lower the calorie intake, keep you fuller longer, and will also help avoid that next morning slump. Legit, try it.

3. Fruits and Veggies

Hellooooo nature has created the perfect hydration system. Fruits and veggies are packed with water! A few of the top performers include cantaloupe, grapefruit, watermelon, strawberries, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, and even baby carrots. These guys have over 90% water content. Wha? It’s almost like nature is on our side, huh? 🙂

Hey, it’s summer and we finally get to go outside and play! Don’t let dehydration and all the negatives that come along with it cloud your sunny summer!
